Intention: I am choosing light over darkness
“The shadow is the greatest teacher for how to come to the light.”
Ram Dass
Since springing forward, how has the return of longer days affected you? Time change can be quite disruptive, however, it is delightful to hear children playing outside longer as well as watching cyclists and jogging enthusiasts taking pleasure in the fresh air and sunshine. Phoebe has even had the privilege of added evening walks through the fields.
Winter, the time of darkness and restoration, is taking its final bow. Spring now promises the return of light and life as the sun stretches out the days ahead. Ecclesiastes 3:1 gives us permission to embrace the ebb and flow of whatever life brings, for “there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:.”
The primal response is to flee and run from grief, but like a shadow, grief will follow. Accept this time, so during grief's murky season, rest and self-nurture. Find ways in which to heal from the fracture of losing your loved one. Encourage the light from within to seep into the present. Once the light of love returns, we return to the living. Grief is powerless over love just as darkness is broken even by the smallest flame.
Light resides in our hearts when we are renewed with passion, divine guidance, and purpose. Give it a name, befriend it because grief inhabits you, but so does joy. In the Gospel of Matthew 5:14, he wrote that, “you are the light of the world…” because we carry the divinity within us. Likewise, “When the light returns to its source,” Rumi said, “it takes nothing of what it has illuminated.”
Our earthly trials become our most enduring strengths. Ram Dass suggested in his quote that shadows are the means in which to see the light. We cannot fathom the potency of light without knowing the dark. There is a time for everything as Ecclesiastes states, and there is no permanency in our circumstances.
Is this is your time to shine?
As 2026 continues, I am choosing:
I am choosing light over darkness.
I am choosing hope over despair.
I am choosing faith over fear.
I am choosing miracles over coincidence.
I am choosing love over loss.
